The Italian food pyramid is a food pyramid of the United States Department of Agriculture, but is for those who use a Mediterranean diet or use an Italian diet. The original food pyramid is designed to try to reverse the growing trend of heart disease and other illness caused by poor nutrition and poor diet. In the USA this is because the population is more than likely to run out of rusty food and essential vitamins of fruits and vegetables.
So how does the Italian food pyramid change? The Italian food pyramid basically focuses on more foods that make up the Mediterranean diet. More emphasis should be placed on eating foods that are of plant origin. Italians and Mediterranean countries not only consume fruit and vegetables, but drink much more cereals, legumes, walnuts, seeds, olives and olive oil. It always contains good foods, vitamins and minerals. More emphasis is placed on the consumption of fish and shellfish at least twice a week.
Over the last few years, it has been shown that the health of the Mediterranean diet has a lot to do with the fact that Italians and Mediterranean countries have much less chronic diseases that are linked to the Western diet, such as heart attacks and stroke. The Italian food pyramid is one of the most desirable food pyramids in the world. It is also one of the sharpest food pyramids to follow. Italian cuisine, along with all Mediterranean cuisine, includes some of the best foods produced in the region.
