One of the most widespread New Year's decisions is year after year to improve overall well-being, which includes healthy eating and weight loss. Healthier nutrition is difficult to achieve when the balance between work and private life collapses. Hectic, unbalanced life often increases stress; and stress affects mood, energy levels, and eating habits. With long, busy working days, meetings and conference calls, it is often easier to grab a blueberry muffin during the break than to mix a cup of yogurt with grateful fruits and granules. Unfortunately, many people are unaware of the amount of calories they consume daily by choosing impulsive food.

Here are some examples:

· Yoplait Light Blueberry Patch Yoghurt with 100 calories compared to Dunkin Donuts Blueberry Muffin 500 Calories or Reduced Fat Blueberry Muffin 450 Calories

· Medium banana contains 110 calories in a slice of Starbucks Banana Nut Loaf- with calories of 490 calories

· Medium apple contains 95 calories of McDonald's 250 roasted Californian cabbage apples

· McDonalds Medium Strawberry Banana Smoothie 260 calories versus McDonalds Medium Hazel with McCafe Shake 710 Calories

According to the US Department of Agriculture, Active Adults recommend calorie intake to 2200 calories and the active adult men's calorie intake is 2800 calories (both age, that is level of activity and weight). If you have high calorie meals during a meal or snack, you will not leave much room for other meals on that day. If you want some high-calorie food, find a healthy, satisfying alternative quickly. There are countless sites to help you determine the calorie content of foods and most restaurants on their website. Finally, always remember to read the nutrition labels if available. Just because a meal plan sounds healthy does not mean it's really healthy. For the purpose of this blog, only calories were compared. Many other factors are also to be considered when selecting healthy foods; ie fat, cholesterol, sodium, carbohydrates, sugar and protein are the most popular.
